Brief introduction of Chinese Society of Criminology
The Chinese Society of Criminology(CSC) was established in 1992 as a national mass academic body under the leadership of the Supreme People's Procuratorate, and at the same time to accept the management, supervision, and professional guidance of China Law Society.Currently, The CSC has over 2400 members, most of whom are scholars and experts specializing in criminology and legal practitioners in various law-practicing bodies, making the society the most important platform and force in the study of criminologyin China mainland. The CSC affiliated to National Prosecutors College, and has a secretariat, academic department, contact department, foreign affairs department, etc. Under the CSC, there are 5 professional committees focusing on different areas including crime prevention, crime countermeasures, power-abuse crime prevention, correction of criminals and victimology, etc.
Since its inception, The CSC has held 26 annual conferences (academic in nature) and dozens of workshops, focus on how to safeguard national security and the hot issues of criminology under the background of China's overall economic and political, generating a large number of positive effective countermeasures and suggestions about prevention and punishment of the crime.The CSC also actively engages in the study and formulation of various national legislations, having played an important role in the drafting, formulation and enactment of "the Law on Juvenile Delinquency Prevention" and "the Law on Minors Protection", etc.The Society also lays great store by the basic theoretical research and discipline construction in criminology in that it organized the publication of "the Dictionary of Criminology" and a series of books on basic theories of criminology, making criminology an important independent discipline. "The Treaties of Criminology" is an academic periodical published by the CSC in one or two volumes annually, which has already become a brand-named window showcasing the research results in criminology.
The CSC attaches importance to various international academic exchanges,and has established cooperation and exchange relations with the International Society of Criminology, the Asia Society of Criminology, the Australian Society of Criminology, the Research Institute of Japan & China Criminal Law, the Taiwan Society of Criminology and other academic organization. Meanwhile,the CSC has combined with Taiwan Han Zhongmo law foundation jointly sponsored 4 academic seminar of criminology and criminal investigation ,and the scholars and experts are coming from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and China mainland.
